Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Degree Completion Advisor and Records Specialist (two positions FA049 & FA339) in The Office of the Registrar. The successful candidates will support degree completion functions within the Office of the Registrar to support the mission of Longwood University and the strategic initiatives to increase retention and graduation rates; be responsible for degree completion audits, final degree certification, transfer credit processing and advise students on degree completion requirements. These positions will also be School Certifying Officials for Veterans Educations benefits, helping to serve either the undergraduate or graduate student populations.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Serve as a Degree Completion Advisor to track progress toward degree completion, process transfer credits, monitor, track, advise, and communicate progress toward graduation, process degree applications and award degrees
Advocate on behalf of students with faculty to obtain appropriate substitutions/waivers to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion
Identify and gain faculty approval for transfer credit substitutions/waivers opportunities to facilitate efficient and timely degree completion and assist the University in being transfer friendly
Regularly review process and implement adjustments to achieve more efficiencies
Utilize DegreeWorks software to ensure accuracy of student degree audits, and test systems against curriculum changes
Veterans Benefits School Certifying Official. Interpret, apply, and remain in compliance with all federal and state guidelines in assisting students in navigating application and benefits processes. Certify both initial and final enrollment certifications each semester as well as grading and graduation updating in VAOnce
Records and Registration support. Assist in overall phone, in-person, chat, email communications and form processing
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of work experience and/or training may be considered
Experience in related tasks within an institution of higher education or Registrar’s Office, with knowledge of higher education principles, practices, regulations and processes preferred
Strong customer service/interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, work under pressure and be a team player
Strong verbal communication skills including regular presentations to audiences large and small
The ability to change communication message to match audience
The ability to excel in a fast paced every changing environment
Veterans Benefits certification experience preferred
Work experience and proficiency in Banner preferred
Work experience and proficiency in VAOnce preferred
Work experience and proficiency in DegreeWorks preferred
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the operations of an institution and the importance of the interrelation of the support units preferred
This is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
